Under the Inventory section, vehicles are available from our own stock and export sources abroad (sub-categorized for easy navigation). Any units purchased overseas will be guided through our Vehicle Importation System (See Services for more information).

Private Stock: The units found in this section are all landed or in-transit to Canada. These vehicles are Edulis Imports stock, unless otherwise indicated by "Private Sale" in the listing details (for more information on Private Sales, contact info@edulisimports.com). Anyone can view this section, but only members can make offers.

JDM Stock: This section contains hand picked, feature units from our largest auto dealer and stock yard sources in Japan. Due to the amount of vehicles regularly being added and removed, this section contains only basic listing information; please inquire for any additional information you may need. Anyone can view this section, but only members can make offers.

JDM Auctions: This section contains vehicles from auction houses all across Japan. The units found in this section are only a handful of feature auction vehicles (updated weekly). Due to the mass volume of units, this section contains only basic listing information; please inquire for any additional information you may need. Members can view this section, but a security deposit is required to bid on vehicles. See the Members section to submit a deposit for bidding access on our JDM Auction listings.

PURCHASING/PRICING

To purchase a listed vehicle, you can either offer on stock units or bid on auction units. If your bid/offer is successful, the full amount of the vehicle price is due immediately. A representative will contact you through your member contact information to arrange payment. Vehicles will not be reserved for customers until a payment arrangement or security deposit is made. Supplementary fees will be charged throughout the process prior to the arrangement of each service (see "Supplementary Fees" for more).

Edulis Imports vehicles are value priced with minimal markup. This small markup exists for vehicle price protection in volatile currency exchange markets. Vehicle markup is not a profit center of Edulis Imports, thus making our prices highly competitive. If you find a better deal anywhere else, let us know to see if we can match or beat that price entirely!

Importing To Canada

Importing a vehicle is a complicated task that requires careful coordination. With our experienced staff, we not only get the job done properly and timely, we guarantee it too (see the "Edulis Imports Promise"). Once you have selected your vehicle and made required payment, shipping will be arranged with final delivery 1-3 months following purchase. Take a load off and dream of drifting while you count the days till your hot new import vehicle arrives. All you do is provide payment, and pick your desired shipping methods for overseas and inter-Canadian transport (driveway delivery available!). Your import representative takes care of the importation and delivery process in full (see "Services" for more information on our Vehicle Importation System).

Vehicles brought overseas through Edulis Imports must be 15 years or older (based on the production month and year) for admittance into Canada. At this time, we can not provide any exceptions to this policy due to CCRA (Canada Customs and Revenue Agency) and Transport Canada regulations. Nonetheless, huge advantages still exist for Canadian consumers; see "Favorable Market" and "Quality Cars" for reasons overseas importing could be perfect for your needs and wants!

Available Vehicles

Although our website primarily lists sports and luxury vehicles, this is by no means the extent of what is available to our buyers. Through our sourcing service, you can access every type of motorized vehicle including trucks, buses, minivans, motorcycles and more! Furthermore, vehicles from every major auto manufacturer are available and ready to import to Canada. The possibilities are limitless with Edulis Imports! Check out "How to Buy" for more information on how to find your next vehicle.

Right Hand Drive

A number of the vehicles we offer are right hand drive. Right hand drive vehicles are safe and legal for road use all across Canada. They are no more difficult or dangerous to drive, but do offer increased cautions that you must be attent to. Left-hand turns and shoulder checks are things tricky at first, but are easily perfected once practiced. Often, drivers will be fully used to the adjustment within one or two days of practice. Of course, for first time right hand drivers, practice is necessary and is best suited for a safe, familiar environment.

Some even find parking and steering qualities they actually prefer with right hand drive vehicles. These include increased curb visibility and shifting with a non-predominant hand.

Many left hand drive vehicles are also available for importation through Edulis Imports.

Favorable Market

The Japanese used vehicle market offers very attractive advantages for buyers in countries like Canada. Huge supply and low demand for used vehicles in Japan drops their market value considerably. With essentially no domestic buyers, the market shifted and became export-driven. This further affects Japanese market value, as used vehicle prices must be low enough to make the rigors of importing worthwhile. In nearly all cases, importing from Japan will be less expensive than purchasing a comparable used vehicle in Canada. With Edulis Imports, customers have access to a huge supply of vehicles from various export sources across Japan.

Quality cars

Apart from the cost-benefit, used vehicles from Japan have significantly lower kilometers than older used vehicles found in North America. Considering their total land size is only a fraction of the average Canadian province, it's understandable that drivable area in Japan is very limited. On average, a 15 year old vehicle from Japan will have somewhere around 100 000 KM"s, with many even having less than 50 000. Furthermore, the climate in Japan is significantly different than Canada"s. This causes JDM vehicles to have little, if any, rust or corrosion.

Shipping to Canada

To ensure you're precious vehicle arrives unscathed, full freight insurance coverage is provided. For protection of all our customers, we've created a system to ensure the vehicle arrives in condition agreed upon at time of purchase. If a customer incurs damage or loss, our accountability and documentation process ensures that a claim in fact can, and will be filed for compensation (see the "Edulis Imports Promise" for more information about our services guarantee). The cost of freight insurance varies based the value of goods, and who the policy is purchased from.

At this time, Edulis Imports currently offers two methods of shipment from Japan. Once departed, a voyage may take between 2-3 weeks to arrive in Vancouver, Canada. The cost of ocean freight varies based on method of shipment, as well as weight and size.

  • Container Shipment: Reliable and predictable with weekly departures for used vehicles. This method typically has much faster loading times, thus significantly reducing downtime in shipment. For a slight up-charge, you can ship your vehicle aboard a container vessel.
  • RORO Shipment: Short for roll on, roll off; RORO shipping uses ocean vessels built for transporting vehicles. This method is more cost-efficient, but offers many delays with limited booking space for used vehicles. On certain occasions, reserving space aboard a RORO vessel could take a month or greater, making vehicle departure dates difficult to predict. This method however, is less costly than container shipping.

Insuring and Registering Your Import

Once cleared through customs as a legal import, we provide you with all your vehicles documents needed for registration and insurance in Canada. Registering and insuring a vehicle imported from Japan is easy and nearly no different than any other vehicle entering from outside your province. It should cost the same amount and will be subject to the same "Out of Province" requirements. Registries will require proper customs admittance documentation, as well as a completed "Out of Province" inspection (see your local registry office for information on "Out of Province" requirements in your area). Your insurance company will also require the "OOP" inspection to provide coverage on your import vehicle.

With Edulis Imports, you can make your import vehicle "Good to Go" for road use in Canada. With our fully licensed automotive team, your vehicle will be cleared of the safety requirements for "Out of Province" vehicles, thus making it fully eligible for registration and insurance. Check out the "Services" section for more information on "Good to Go" with Edulis Imports.

Risks and Pitfalls of Importing

Purchasing a vehicle from overseas with only the aid of pictures and information can be slightly intimidating. On a playing field where mistakes cost money, "learning" isn't an easy thing to do... without paying a price. It's common for "do-it-yourself" importers to make purchase decisions based on inadequate information, as well a number of other mistakes while buying a Japanese used vehicle. These mistakes result in lesser quality vehicles, and/or higher total landed cost than if the procedure were carried out by an experienced import representative. With Edulis Imports, the risks and pitfalls of importing are easily avoidable. Through our growth, we"ve made the mistakes ourselves and learnt how to prevent and overcome them for our customers.

First and foremost, due diligence is critical for any vehicle importation to be a success. Making smart purchase decisions require emotional detachment, and in-depth inquiry on any vehicle you consider purchasing. Our Purchase Consultation Service offers FREE expert advice tailored to your personal needs (see "Services" for more information on our Purchase Consultation Service). It's never been easier to get exactly what you want with the knowledgeable assistance and "lemon-proof" purchasing provided by our staff.

Once you've found your perfect vehicle, a representative will guide it safely through our tried and true Vehicle Importation System (see "Services" for more information). With Edulis, delivery is guaranteed without incurrence of unnecessary charges (see the "Edulis Imports Promise"). Rest assured, with full freight insurance, your precious import is well-protected in the event of mishap on its journey home.

With these two services and representatives resting at nothing than to provide you pure satisfaction, the risks of importing are easily overcome with Edulis Imports.

Other Considerations

Vehicles manufactured for the JDM market will generally need two parts for compliance with Canadian safety standards (neutral safety switch and day time running lights). These parts are low-cost items and are required, if absent, for legal road use of import vehicles.

These parts are available for purchase and installation through Edulis Imports. Contact a representative to purchase these parts, and/or have them installed by our certified automotive team.
